Se celebró la edición número 47 de los American Music Awards en el Microsoft Theater en Los Ángeles. La presentación corrió a cargo de Ciara y Taylor Swift se convirtió en la gran triunfadora al llevarse 6 premios, uno el ya conocido como Artista de la Década y los 5 a los que estaba nominada. Con ello la cantante superó a Michael Jackson y es la artista con más AMAs, con un total de 29.
La cantante que ganó además el premio a la artista del año y al álbum pop-rock del año por Lover, interpretó un medley con sus grandes éxitos, que pudo cantar tras la última polémica de estos días, por el derecho a tener sus másters de los discos que hizo con Big Machine Records. La cantante apareció en el escenario con una camisa blanca con los nombres de todos los álbumes de los que no tiene los másters, que son todos a excepción del último, Lover, que es con Republic, y del que ella ya posee los derechos, tras la firma de su nuevo contrato.
La cantante hizo un medley con The Man, Love Story, I Knew You Were Trouble, Blank Space, Shake It Off, estando acompañada por Camila Cabello y Halsey y finalmente ella al piano con Lover.
Fue una noche eminentemente femenina, no solo porque la mayoría de actuaciones de la noche fueron de mujeres, sino porque el otro gran momento lo protagonizó Shania Twain. La cantante canadiense que aparecía en los AMAs por primera vez desde 2003 y que está a punto de comenzar su residencia en Las Vegas se marcó un imponente medley con versiones de Rockstar, Stressed Out, Shake It Off, God’s Plan, y sus temas propios como You’re Still the One, Any Man of Mine, That Don’t Impress Me Much, cerrando con Man! I Feel Like A Woman.
Además Khalid y BTS se llevaron 3 premios y Billie Eilish anticipó lo que puede ser en los Grammy, al ganar el premio al mejor nuevo artista.
