El próximo 26 de mayo se publicará un edición especial, que conmemorará el 50 aniversario de la publiación del Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band de los Beatles.
El disco se publicó originalmente el 1 de junio de 1967, y la foto de la portada se hizo el 30 de marzo de 1967. Esta nueva edición saldrá en CD, una nueva remezcla del disco original, las 13 canciones, una edición doble en CD, con el disco original y un segundo CD con tomas alternativas. Además un edición doble en vinilo.
Luego está una edición super deluxe de nada más y nada menos que 6 CDs. Viene en una caja con la portada lenticular original. Lleva el disco original, dos CDs con outtakes, de cuando se grabaron, por orden cronológico, un cuarto CD con los mono mixes, algunos de ellos nunca publicados. Además de un DVD y Blu-ray con el disco en 5.1 y alta resolución, una nueva versión restaurada del especial de televisión de 1994, The making of Sgt. Pepper y las películas promocionales, A day in the life, Strawberry fields forever y Penny lane.
También incluye un libro en tapa dura de 144 páginas, que analiza entre otras cosas, las canciones una a una.
El disco como decimos se publicó el 1 de junio de 1967 y fue la primera vez que un disco de los Beatles se publicaba a la vez en el Reino Unido y en los Estados Unidos y tenía el mismo tracklisting. El disco ganó el Grammy al álbum del año y en 2003 ingresó en la Librería del Congreso en los Estados Unidos, por su impacto, cultural e histórico.
Durante el Record Store Day, el 22 de abril, se lanzará en vinilo el single Penny Lane y Strawberry fields forever, que se incluyen también dentro de esta nueva edición.
