Se han celebrado los primeros MTV Awards que compartían el cine y la televisión, los MTV Movies and TV Awards. Los grandes premios se los llevaron La Bella y la Bestia como mejor película del año y Stranger Things, en la nueva categoría de mejor show de televisión.
Emma Watson se llevó el premio a la primera categoría que une en la interpretación a hombres y mujeres. La actriz en su discurso felicitó a la MTV por dar un premio en el que no se tenga en cuenta el género, alabando la diversidad. En la misma categoría pero en las series de televisión, el premio fue para Millie Bobby Brown en Stranger Things.
Los premios se entregaron en el Shrine Auditorium de Los Ángeles, en California, el la edición número 26 de los premios y la primera en la que se destacaba el trabajo en televisión. La ceremonia la presentó Adam DeVine.
Además de All Time Low, Zara Larsson y Bea Miller, que actuaron fuera de la ceremonia, en el previo, en la propia ceremonia, actuaron Adam DeVine, Millie Bobby Brown, Lil Rel Howery, Blake Anderson, Chrissy Metz, DJ Nasty, Josh Gad, Mike Colter, Hailee Steinfeld y Rebel Wilson con el medley Movies and TV, Noah Cyrus con Stay together, Big Sean con Jump out of the window y Pitbull con J Balvin y Camila Cabello con Hey ma, en la actuación de la noche probablemente. Aunque muchos se sintieron defraudados, porque interpretaron la canción en inglés y no en español.
